Section 12-I7.4 - MANDATORY PROVISIONS

Strike Section 7.4.2 of ASHRAE 90.1 in its entirety and insert a new Section 7.4.2 in its place in the Energy Conservation Code-Commercial Provisions to read as follows:

7.4.2

Equipment Efficiency. All water heating equipment, hot-water supply boilers used solely for heating potable water, pool heaters, and hot-water storage tanks shall meet the criteria listed in Table 7.8, except for building projects complying with the Alternate Renewables Approach in Section 13.1.1.2, which shall comply with Table 13-9 and the ENERGY STAR requirements in Section 10.11.2. Where multiple criteria are listed, all criteria shall be met. Omission of minimum performance requirements for certain classes of equipment does not preclude use of such equipment where appropriate. Equipment not listed in Table 7.8 has no minimum performance requirements.

Exceptions: All water heaters and hot-water supply boilers having more than 140 gal of storage capacity are not required to meet the standby loss (SL) requirements of Table 7.8 when:

a. the tank surface is thermally insulated to R-12.5,
b. a standing pilot light is not installed, and
c. gas- or oil-fired storage water heaters have a flue damper or fan-assisted combustion.

Insert a new Section 7.4.5.2.1 in the Energy Conservation Code-Commercial Provisions to read as follows:

7.4.5.2.1

Insulation for Spas and Pools. Spas and pools heated to more than 90°F (32°C) shall also have side and bottom surfaces insulated on the exterior with a minimum insulation value of R-12.
