(a) Nothing in Chapter 393 of the General Statutes shall be construed to prohibit the employment of apprentices.(b) An apprentice may perform the work for which he is being trained only in the presence and under the direct supervision of a licensed contractor or journeyman in his trade, and shall comply with all the regulations pertaining thereto.(c) No apprentice shall at any time engage in any of the work for which a license is required without direct supervision. Direct supervision shall mean under the guidance of a licensed contractor or journeyman and within the sight and/or hearing of said licensed person.(d) Any person who encourages or permits an apprentice or helper to so engage in the work or occupation for which a license is required without direct supervision shall also be subject to appropriate disciplinary action. The contractor who obtains the permit for the work for which a license is required shall be deemed to have encouraged or permitted the apprentice or helper to work without direct supervision for the purpose of disciplinary action by the appropriate board.(e)RatiosNothing in Chapter 393 of the General Statutes shall be construed to prohibit the employment of apprentices by a licensed contractor in the electrical, plumbing, heating, piping and cooling, sprinkler fitter or sheet metal work trades according to the following schedule:

(f)How to register as an apprentice.(1) No apprentice shall perform the work of any occupation covered by Chapter 393 of the General Statutes unless he has first obtained a card of registration from the Connecticut Department of Labor.(2) Prior to employing an apprentice, the contractor shall communicate immediately with the Connecticut Department of Labor to request registration of said apprentice.(3) When registration is requested for an area of the trade which is not available through the Connecticut Department of Labor, said contractor shall make his request to the appropriate board prior to the employment of the apprentice.Conn.
