Section 19a-36-A46 - Sale of turtles
(1) No live turtle shall be sold in Connecticut until examination in the laboratory of the state department of health of three specimens of water from the tank in which the turtle is kept, taken not less than forty-eight hours apart by a representative of either a local health department or state department of health fails to show the presence of salmonella organisms.
(2) Should a single such examination show the presence of salmonella organisms all turtles in the tank shall be destroyed.
(3) Persons who import, purchase, sell, exchange, barter, give away or otherwise deal in turtles shall keep records of such transactions embodying information required by the state department of health for a mininum period of two years, which records shall be open for inspection by a representative of the local director of health or the state department of health.
(4) In any location where turtles are offered for sale the vendor shall post warnings which adequately inform the public that the transmission of salmonella disease by turtles is possible.
