Section 14-137-83 - Skills test requirements(a) Prior to issuing a motor vehicle operator's license to any person permitting operation of any motor vehicle identified in subsection (b) of this section, the commissioner, as authorized in accordance with sections 14-36 and 14-36a of the general statutes, shall require that such person demonstrate personally that he is competent to operate such a motor vehicle, and shall require such person to take and pass an on-the-road skills test. The test shall be administered by an inspector of the department of motor vehicles in a representative vehicle under typical driving conditions, and in accordance with standards prescribed by the commissioner. Such vehicle shall be provided by the operator and shall meet all legal requirements for highway operation.(b) The skills test shall be required prior to licensing for operation of a commercial motor vehicle, as defined in section 14-1(a)(11) of the general statutes and for which a skills test is required by the provisions of section 14-44e of the general statutes.(c) Any person who does not pass the skills test shall be entitled to request and take at least one (1) additional test, and may, in the discretion of the commissioner, be permitted to take further tests upon condition that such person will undergo such additional training as the commissioner prescribes.(d) This section shall not be construed to apply to proficiency testing for operators of school buses, as conducted in accordance with the requirements of subsection (b) of section 14-276a of the general statutes.Conn.
