17.1. Food 17.1.1. Pet animals must be fed in a manner that is consistent with the nutritional needs for the age, size, condition, and species.17.1.2. Perishable food must be refrigerated.17.2. Water 17.2.1. If potable water is not continually available to the pet animal, it must be offered as often as necessary to ensure health and well-being, but not less than twice daily.17.2.2. Potable water must be available to birds, turtles, and amphibians at all times.17.2.3. For reptiles, potable water must be provided as appropriate to the species for drinking, soaking, or defecation in a container large enough to accommodate the entire animal. Water must be offered in a form that will facilitate drinking.17.3. Access 17.3.1. Animals must be provided food and water in containers except when otherwise appropriate to the species.17.3.2. Open food and water containers must be accessible to the pet animal and located to minimize contamination of the food or water in the container.17.3.3. Animal food and water containers must be safe, in sufficient number, of adequate size, of appropriate type, and located so as to enable each animal in the enclosure to be supplied with an adequate amount of food and water.17.3.4.
