Subsection [BS] 706.2 - Addition or replacement of roofing or replacement of equipment

Any existing gravity load-carrying structural element for which an alteration causes an increase in design gravity load shall be replaced or altered as needed to carry the gravity loads required by the International Building Code for new structures. The increase in gravity loads shall account for the cumulative effects of additions since original construction.

Exceptions:

Add the words Insulation shall not be added such that it increases the thermal factor Ct in accordance with ASCE 7-16 Table 7.3-2 without checking capacity of existing structure to end of exception number 2 and add exception number 3.

3. Structural elements whose demand capacity ratio is not increased by more than 5%.
