Section 9.18 - Role of Human Rights Committee(1)Responsibilities for Individuals Who Require Assistance.(a) The human rights committee shall assist an individual involved in a complaint to ensure that his or her rights are adequately protected. Such assistance may include arrangements for interpreters, representation by an independent attorney or advocate, and assistive and supportive devices and technologies. A list of attorneys or advocates shall be maintained by the human rights committee and made available to an individual upon request.(b) Where an individual is unable to obtain representation or an advocate, the human rights committee may request the assistance of the service coordinator in ascertaining the capability of the individual and seeking an attorney or advocate to represent the individual.(c) The human rights committee shall assist an individual in filing a complaint upon request.(2)Party to Complaints or Proceedings. The human rights committee of a provider shall be a party to all complaints involving individuals served by the provider, and shall receive copies of the documents distributed to the parties as provided in 115 CMR 9.00.(3)Human Rights Committees shall treat as confidential all information and documents which they receive in their capacity as a party.Amended by Mass Register Issue 1336, eff. 4/7/2017.
