Section 480.550 - Approval of Alternative Methods of Treatment, Storage, and DisposalThe Department may approve, in writing, alternative methods not otherwise authorized by 105 CMR 480.000 for the treatment, storage or disposal of medical or biological waste under the following conditions:
(A) An application has been completed, signed, submitted and accepted by the Department;(B) The method has been validated through scientific studies acceptable to the Department;(C) The method has been reviewed and approved by the Department's Medical and Biological Waste Alternative Treatment Review Group (MBWAT); and(D) If the waste is to be transported off-site, the waste treatment facility has been approved by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection or, if shipped out of state, by the appropriate regulatory agency in that state.
