Section 120.314 - Radiation Survey Instruments(A) The licensee or registrant shall maintain sufficient calibrated and operable radiation survey instruments to make physical radiation surveys as required by 105 CMR 120.300 and 120.225(A). Instrumentation required by 105 CMR 120.300 shall have a range from 0.02 mSv/hr (2 mrem/hr) through 0.01 Sv/hr (1 rem/hr).(B) Each radiation survey instrument shall be calibrated:(1) By a person licensed or registered by the Agency, another Agreement State, a Licensing State, or the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to perform such service;(2) At energies appropriate for the licensee's or registrant's use;(3) At intervals not to exceed six months and after each instrument servicing other than battery replacement;(4) To demonstrate an accuracy within plus or minus 20%; and(5) At two points located approximately a and b of full-scale on each scale for linear scale instruments; at midrange of each decade, and at two points of at least one decade for logarithmic scale instruments; and for digital instruments, at three points between 0.02 and 10 mSv/hr (2 and 1,000 mrem/hr).(C) Records of these calibrations shall be maintained for Agency inspection for five years after the calibration date.(D) Each radiation survey instrument shall be checked with a radiation source at the beginning of each day of use and at the beginning of each work shift to ensure it is operating properly.Amended by Mass Register Issue 1307, eff. 2/26/2016.
