(a) This regulatory action enables the Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) and the Board of Juvenile Hearings to realign the impacted youth as outlined in (b) with the necessary support to meet their specific needs, particularly reentry support, in order to prevent risks of being unhoused upon release, facilitate the closure of the DJJ as intended by the legislature, and protect the public.(b) A youth who is committed to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Division of Juvenile Justice for an offense listed in subdivision (c) of section 290.008 of the Penal Code shall appear before the Board of Juvenile Hearings for a discharge consideration hearing in June 2023.(c) Subsection (b) does not apply to a youth who is committed for an offense listed in Welfare and Institutions Code section 707, subdivision (b).Cal.
