Current through Register 2024 Notice Reg. No. 50, December 13, 2024
Section 3939.49 - Groundwater Quality Management Measures for Salts and Nutrients in the Central and West Coast Groundwater Basins of los Angeles County

On February 12, 2015, the Regional Water Quality Control Board, Los Angeles Region (Los Angeles Water Board) adopted Resolution No. R15-001 to incorporate stakeholder-proposed groundwater quality management measures for salts and nutrients in the Central and West Coast groundwater basins of Los Angeles County. The State Water Resources Control Board approved the amendment under Resolution No. 2015-0048, on July 21, 2015.

Resolution No. R15-001 amends the Los Angeles Region's Basin Plan by (i) creating a new chapter -- Chapter 8 "Groundwater Quality Management -- Sustainability and Basin-specific Protection of Groundwater" and, (ii) incorporating stakeholder-proposed groundwater quality management measures for salts and nutrients in the Central and West Coast groundwater basins of Los Angeles County into the new chapter. The proposed management strategies for salt and nutrients are geared toward improving groundwater quality in impaired areas and maintaining high groundwater quality in other areas, while providing the benefit of reduced reliance on imported water supplies.

These management strategies, developed by local water entities in the Central Basin and West Coast Basin, are voluntary measures that are designed to maintain water quality that is protective of beneficial uses.
