(a) All rooms, attics, basements, passageways and other spaces shall be provided with artificial illumination.(b) Adequate illumination shall be provided for the comfort of patients, operating functions in work areas and for the safety of patients and personnel.(c) All patient rooms shall have a minimum of 30 lumens of light delivered to reading or working surfaces and not less than 10 lumens of light in the rest of the room.(d) All corridors, storerooms, stairways, ramps, exits and entrances shall have a minimum of five lumens of light measured in the darkest corner.(e) Lighting fixtures shall have suitable enclosures to control fixture brightness and to prevent accidental lamp breakage. Where exposed lamp fixtures are permitted, such as, closets, storage spaces, equipment rooms and similar areas, suitable guards shall be installed in locations where accidental lamp breakage could be hazardous to personnel.Cal.
