The Department shall increase the number of names placed on an eligible list beyond the number originally stated on the examination announcement as necessary to prevent the occurrence of inequity as the result of tied scores, and in order to permit placing on the list the name of any person who, as a result of deferred examination, correction of clerical error, or granting of appeal, attains a score at least equal to the score of a person included on the original list. The Department may extend the life of the list beyond the announced expiration date or the Department, after a public hearing, may order the list abolished prior to that date.
