Section 1747.6 - Detection SystemAn automatic gas detector and alarm system shall be installed and maintained in an operating condition in accordance with the following:
(a) Gas detection systems shall be installed in all enclosed areas containing gas handling facilities or equipment, and in other areas classified as hazardous and defined in API RP 500 B, 1973, and the National Electric Code, 1971, both incorporated here by reference.(b) All gas detection systems shall be capable of continuous monitoring. The sensitivity shall be maintained at a level that will detect the presence of combustible gas within the areas in which the detection devices are located.(c) The central control shall be capable of giving an alarm at not higher than 60 percent of the lower explosive limit.(d) The central control shall automatically activate shut-in sequences and emergency equipment at a point not higher than 90 percent of the lower explosive limit.Cal.
