Section 623 - DefinitionsThe following definitions shall apply whenever the terms are used in this subchapter:
(a) An "aftermarket lighting device" is an item that is sold or offered for sale for use on any vehicle and includes devices of which some of the production is original equipment on specific models.(b) "CHP" or "department" means the Department of the California Highway Patrol.(c) An "original equipment lighting device" is an item that is factory installed on new vehicles and includes identical devices sold or offered for sale solely as replacements for the originals.(d) A "sealed optical unit" is a lighting unit with the lens and reflector assembly permanently sealed to prevent the entrance of gas and moisture into the unit.(e) A "semisealed optical unit" is a lighting unit with a replaceable bulb and with the lens permanently sealed to the reflector.Cal.
