(a) The department shall verify the authenticity of any social security number provided on a driver license or identification card application. Verification of social security numbers may include the use of electronic verification systems and manual methods.(b) The department shall not issue a driver license or identification card, or a temporary license, interim license, or instruction permit, if the social security number submitted to the department does not match the records of the Social Security Administration.(c) The department shall not accept an application for a driver license or identification card if the application does not include the applicant's social security number. Exception:(1) If the application was submitted with document(s) that establish proof of the applicant's legal presence in the United States, AND(2) The Department of Homeland Security verifies that the applicant is in the country legally but is not authorized to work, and is therefore ineligible for a social security number.Cal.
