Rule 004.00.20-047 - AR 112 Farming and Livestock Activities
I.POLICY:

It shall be the policy of the Department of Correction to extend authorization to the Director for the operations and management as required by guidelines and practices in the Farming and Livestock operations of the Arkansas Department of Correction.

II.EXPLANATION:

Act 50 of 1968 authorizes the Director, with the approval of the Board of Correction, to promulgate necessary rules and rules for the operation of the farming and livestock activities of the various institutions of the department, the employment of personnel, the assignment of inmate labor and other purposes.

III.PROCEDURES:
A. The Department shall make maximum utilization of the farm lands of the various institutions of the department through the use of modern agricultural machinery, equipment and technology in producing crops and livestock for the use in feeding prisoners, and for sale on the market to produce income for the maintenance and operation of the institutions of the department.
B. The Director will employ and/or have employed personnel adequately trained to carry out all functioning of the Farming and Livestock operations.
C. The Farming and Livestock operations will use inmates as classified by the classification committees to carry out the labor needs of these operations.
