Rule 002.01.24-149 - 06.03 Certain Firearms Prohibited During Alternative Firearms Season

It is unlawful during the alternative firearms deer or bear seasons to hunt deer or bear with the following:

A. Firearms capable of firing rimfire or centerfire ammunition;

B. Muzzleloading firearms firing shot smaller than No. 4 buckshot;

C. Muzzleloading long guns smaller than .40 caliber or with barrels shorter than 18 inches in length;

D. Muzzleloading handguns with barrels less than 9 inches in length, of smaller than .45 caliber, and loaded with a projectile weighing less than 200 grains (.45 caliber or larger conical bullets, or .530 and larger round balls); or

E. Longbows, compound bows or crossbows capable of firing or holding ready-to-fire more than one arrow or bolt simultaneously or in succession without the string being re-cocked between shots;

F. Arrows propelled by the action of an explosive or combustible propellant; and,

G. Shotguns.

EXCEPTIONS:

A. Any caliber muzzleloading handgun or (cap and ball) percussion revolver is permitted to be carried when a legal muzzleloading long gun is in hunter's immediate possession.

B. Hunters of a deer camp enrolled in the Deer Management Assistance Program who have been issued an Unrestricted Weapon Antlerless Permit or Management Buck Permit may hunt deer in compliance with the terms of the permit.

C. Non-semiautomatic centerfire firearm which fires a straight-walled metallic cartridge .30 caliber or larger.

D. Non-semiautomatic handguns having barrels no less than 4 inches in length and chambered specifically for straight-wall centerfire cartridge cases .30 caliber or larger.

E. Big Bore Air Rifles as defined in Code 01.00-C.
