Section R4-25-702 - Podiatric Medical Assistants - Authorized Procedures

A. A podiatric medical assistant not working under the direct supervision of a licensed podiatric physician may:

1. Order supplies, store supplies, stock treatment rooms;

2. Clean treatment rooms;

3. Answer phones;

4. Schedule appointments;

5. Check patients in.

B. A podiatric medical assistant working under the direct supervision of a licensed podiatric physician may:

1. Obtain medical history from a patient;

2. Obtain and record vital signs of a patient;

3. Explain treatment procedures to a patient;

4. Take off a patient's shoes and put the patient's shoes back on;

5. Clip toenails on a patient;

6. Apply bandages to the feet of a patient;

7. Prepare a patient for a procedure;

8. Take x-rays if the podiatric medical assistant is certified in radiology as described in R4-25-701, subsection (B). A podiatric medical assistant shall not take x-rays if the podiatric medical assistant does not meet the requirement of R4-25-701, subsection (B);

9. The supervising licensed podiatric physician shall ensure that the podiatric medical assistant is properly trained and shall be responsible for all acts or missions of a podiatric medical assistant.
