Section 7 AAC 35.390 - Definitions In 7 AAC 35.310 - 7 AAC 35.390, unless the context requires otherwise,
(1) "department" means the Department of Health and Social Services;(2) "family" means persons authorized to control disposition of a deceased person's remains under AS 13.75.020;(3) "jurisdiction" means responsibility for performing the remainder of a medical death investigation under AS 12.65.020, determining the manner and cause of death, and verifying the deceased person's identity;(4) "medicolegal death investigation" means the process at the start of a medical death investigation to assess each death reported to the department under AS 12.65.005, so that the state medical examiner may determine whether to assume jurisdiction for the purpose of performing the remainder of the medical death investigation under AS 12.65.020;(5) "medicolegal death investigator" means a public employee or contractor in the service of the office who performs the initial death investigation; in this paragraph, "initial death investigation" includes taking reports of death, investigating scenes, collecting records, interviewing witnesses, and serving subpoenas on behalf of the state medical examiner;(6) "office" means the state medical examiner office in the department;(7) "personal property" means clothing and personal items;(8) "remains" means a body or any part of a body;(9) "unattended death" means the death of a person who has not been examined or prescribed medication by a physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice registered nurse within the year before death.Eff. 8/20/2020,Register 235, October 2020 Authority:
