Section 7 AAC 12.470 - Personnel and staffing(a) In addition to complying with the requirements of 7 AAC 12.660(c), a frontier extended stay clinic must ensure that mid-level practitioners are involved in the orientation and in-service education program for patient care personnel. The in-service education program must be designed to support the services provided by the clinic and the various levels of staffing required at the clinic.(b) The clinic must consider the clinic staff availability when determining a patient's eligibility for admission for extended stay. A physician, a physician assistant, an advanced practice registered nurse, a registered nurse, a licensed practical nurse, a primary community health aide, or an emergency medical technician must be on duty whenever the clinic has one or more extended stay patients. The number of clinic staff and the level of training required to provide treatment to an extended stay patient is at the discretion of the clinic and the practitioner involved in the patient's care, after determining what is required to meet the patient's needs.(c) The clinic must ensure that when a patient is admitted to the clinic for extended stay services by a mid-level practitioner, a physician on the clinic's staff is notified of the admission.(d) The clinic must have the staff necessary to provide the care and services required in 7 AAC 12.453.(e) The clinic staff may also include personnel who provide support services, including bookkeeping, clerical, laundry, and housekeeping services.Eff. 12/3/2006, Register 180; am 5/14/2021, Register 238, July 2021 Authority:AS 47.32.010
