Section 6 AAC 25.145 - Tracking political affiliation on voter registration and absentee ballot application forms(a) The director will track the political affiliation selected by voters on forms used by the division to register a voter.(b) The director shall review the forms used to register a voter on May 31 and at least one other day each year. If a political group has applied for recognized political party status or obtained recognized political party status at the time of the review, the director will include the political group's name on the form. If a political party no longer qualifies as a recognized political party as defined in AS 15.80.010 or a political group did not file an application with the director for recognized political party status on or before May 31, the political party's or political group's name will not be included on the form unless an application is submitted in accordance with 6 AAC 25.140(b).(c) The director will notify a political group that has not applied for or no longer qualifies as a recognized political party by mail, sent to the address on file with the division, that the political group's name will be removed from the voter registration form.(d) The director may not finalize or print updated forms in the 10 days following the mailing of a notification to a political group under (c) of this section to allow time for the political group to submit an application in accordance with 6 AAC 25.140(b).(e) The name of a political group no longer qualifying as a recognized political party will be added to the list of political groups as specified in (b) of this section and the tracking process will continue if the group has complied with 6 AAC 25.140 within 10 days following notification that the group no longer qualifies as a recognized political party.(f) The director may suspend the tracking process between June 1 and November 30 of an election year.Eff. 5/14/2006, Register 178; am 10/16/2009, Register 192; am 5/11/2012, Register 202; am 2/24/2022, Register 241, April 2022; am 7/11/2024, Register 251, October 2024Authority:AS 15.15.010
