Notice.

SUMMARY:

In compliance with the Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) of 1995 (44 U.S.C., 3501 et seq.), this notice announces that the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), Department of Veterans Affairs, has submitted the collection of information abstracted below to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review and comment. The PRA submission describes the nature of the information collection and its expected cost and burden; it includes the actual data collection instrument.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:

Title: Statement of Witness to Accident, VA Form Letter 21-806.

OMB Control Number: 2900-0105.

Type of Review: Extension of a currently approved collection.

Abstract: The form letter is used to gather information to support veterans' claims for disability benefits based on disability(ies) which is/are the result of an accident. The information given by a witness to the accident is used as a source to gather specific data regarding the accident and to obtain from the witness opinions as well as facts based on his or her own knowledge and beliefs regarding the accident. Benefits may be paid if a disability is incurred in the line of duty and is not the result of the veteran's own willful misconduct.

An agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to a collection of information unless it displays a currently valid OMB control number. The Federal Register Notice with a 60-day comment period soliciting comments on this collection of information was published on November 29, 1999, on pages 66693 and 66694.

Affected Public: Individuals or households.

Estimated Annual Burden: 4,400 hours.

Estimated Average Burden Per Respondent: 20 minutes.

Frequency of Response: On occasion.

Estimated Number of Respondents: 13,200.
