AMENDMENT TO DIRECTION OF ELECTION
August 17, 194
On -August 7, 1942, the National Labor Relations Board," herein
called, the Board, issued a Decision and Direction of Election in the
above-entitled proceedings.1 ' '_
The Board having, been advised by International Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers, Local B-713, affiliated with the American Federa-
tion of Labor, that it desires to have its. name withdrawn from
ballot, the Direction of Election is hereby amended by striking
therefrom the words "whether they desire to be represented by United
Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, affiliated with
the Congress of Industrial Organizations, or by International Broth-
erhood of Electrical Workers, Local 13-713, affiliated with the Ameri-
can Federation of Labor, for the purposes of collective'bargaining, or
by neither," and substituting therefor the words "whether or not
they desire to be represented for the purposes of collective bargaining
by United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, af-
filiated with the Congress of Industrial Organizations."
CHAIRMAN, MILLIS took no part in the consideration of the above ,

/On August 7, _1942, the National Labor Relations Board issued a
Decision and Direction of Elections and-on August 17, 1942, an'
Amendment to Direction of Election,2 in the above-entitled proceed-
ings. Pursuant to the Direction of Election and Amendment an elec-
tion by secret ballot was conducted under the direction and supervision
of the Regional Director for the Thirteenth Region (Chicago, Ill-
inois). On August 18, 1942, the Regional Director, acting pursuant
to Article III, Section 9, of National Labor Relations Board Rules'and
Regulations-Series 2, as amended, issued and duly served upon the
parties an Election Report on the ballot. No objections to the conduct
of the ballot or the Election Report were filed by any of the parties.
As to the balloting and its residts, the Regional Director reported
as follows :

IT is HEREBY CERTIFIED that, United Electrical, Radio and Machine
Workers of America, affiliated with the Congress of Industrial Or-
ganizations, has been designated and selected by a majority of the
production and maintenance employees of Universal Battery ,Coin-,
pany, Chicago, Illinois, excluding watchmen, clerical employees, and
supervisors who do not use tools, as their representative for the, pur-.
poses of collective bargaining, and that, pursuant to Section 9 (a),
of the Act, United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America,
affiliated with the Congress of Industrial Organizations,'is the exclu-
sive representative of all such employees for the purposes of collec-
tive bargaining with respect to rates of pay, wages, hours of employ-
ment, and other conditions of employment.
