UNION, UNITED AUTOMOBILE WORKERS OF AMERICA, AFFILIATED WITH THE C. I. O. Case No. R-1396 CERTIFICATION OF REPRESENTATIVES September 11, 1939 On July 31, 1939, the National Labor Relations Board, herein called the Board, issued a Decision and Direction of Election in the above- entitled case., On August 10, ,1939, the Board issued an Amendment to Direction of Election.2 The Direction of Election, as amended, provided that an election by secret ballot be conducted within twenty- five (25) days from the date of the Direction among employees of Motor Products Corporation, herein called the Company, in the unit found by the Board to be appropriate, who were employed by the Company during the pay-roll period immediately preceding the date of the Decision and Direction of Election, including employees who on the date of the Decision and Direction of Election were laid off but still retained their seniority in accordance with the provisions of the contract of November 14, 1938, including also employees who did not work during such pay-roll period because they were ill or on vacation, to determine whether they desire to be represented by Local 203, Inter- national Union, United Automobile Workers of America, affiliated with the C. I. 0., or by Local 203, International Union, United Auto- mobile Workers of America, affiliated with the A. F. of L., for the purposes of collective bargaining, or by neither. Pursuant to the Direction of Election, as amended, an election by secret ballot was conducted on August 22, 1939, at Detroit, Michigan, under the direction and supervision of the Regional Director for the Seventh Region (Detroit, Michigan). On August 23, 1939, the Re- gional Director, acting pursuant to Article III, Section 9, of National Labor Relations Board Rules and Regulations-Series 2, issued and, on August 24, 1939, duly served upon the parties his Election Report. I. 0., has been designated and selected by a majority of all production, non-produc- tion, and maintenance employees of Motor Products Corporation, De- troit, Michigan, in its plant and powerhouse but not in the adminis- trative offices, excluding superintendents, foremen, assistant foremen, time-study men, plant protection and administrative office employees, watchmen and experimental laboratory employees, as their representa- tive for the purposes of, collective bargaining in respect to rates of pay, wages, hours of employment, and other conditions of employment.
