DECISION ON APPEAL Appellant appeals under 35 U.S.C. § 134 from the Examiner's decision rejecting claims 1, 4, 5, 9, 10, 12, and 21-24. 2 We have jurisdiction under 35 U.S.C. § 6. 1 Appellant is the Applicant, United Technologies Corporation, which is identified as the real party in interest (App. Br. 2). 2 Appellant states "[t]he Examiner refused entry of an amendment after final which addressed the 35 U.S.C. 112 rejections" (App. Br. 5). Appellant "requests entry of the amendment after final" (id.; see also id. at 11 ). We will not consider Appellant's request to enter the amendment after final Appeal 2018-007 418 Application 14/711,902 We AFFIRM. Appellant claims a process for coating a component comprising the steps of applying a bond coat 46 on a substrate 44 of the component, applying a thermal barrier material 48 to the bond coat, and applying a rare earth oxide coat 50 to the thermal barrier material to form an exposed surface 52, wherein applying the rare earth oxide coat comprises: (i) applying a rare earth zirconate layer 56 prior to application of a rare earth apatite layer 54 having a particular formula (independent claim 1, Fig. 4) or (ii) mixing a rare earth apatite and a rare earth zirconate to form the rare earth oxide coat as a randomly disbursed system layer (independent claim 21) or (iii) mixing a rare earth apatite and a rare earth zirconate to form the rare earth oxide coat as a graded layer (remaining independent claim 22). A copy of representative claims 1, 21, and 22, taken from the Claims Appendix of the Appeal Brief, appears below. 1.
