Section 851-053-0015 - License Renewal

An APRN may submit a completed application as defined in OAR-006-0030(17) to renew their license to practice if:

(1) APRN practice hours count towards RN license renewal, however, practice hours at the RN level cannot be used towards APRN renewal. RN and APRN license renewals may be submitted simultaneously. All completed applications must be timely in accordance with ORS 678.101; an Oregon unencumbered RN license must be active in order to renew APRN licensure; and

(2) The APRN meets one of the following qualifications:

(a) Practiced 400 hours at the APRN level in the two years preceding the submission of a completed renewal application; or

(b) Is within two years of graduation of initial APRN education program; or

(c) Is within two years of completion of a Board approved re-entry program; or

(d) If the APRN applicant cannot attest to the above renewal criteria, they must apply for reactivation by re-entry.

(3) Has maintained active national certification:

(a) For NPs and CRNAs, active national certification in each area of advanced practice congruent with license type and population foci per OAR 851-053-0005(1)(g) is required for licensure.

(b) For those NPs initially licensed in Oregon prior to January 1, 2011, national certification is not required for renewal, instead the Board requires a minimum of 45 hours of continuing education in the population foci.

(c) National certification is not required for CNS licensure.

(4) Completed renewal applications received after the timeframe described in ORS 678.101 will be subject to a delinquent fee for both the RN and APRN license separately. There is no grace period for license renewal.
