Section Saf-C 1312.13 - Signs and Lights
(a) Each multipurpose passenger vehicle shall be equipped with a double-faced sign visible from the front and rear of the vehicle. The words "SCHOOL BUS" shall be displayed on both the front and rear surfaces of the sign in black letters, 8 inches in height using one inch brush strokes. The letters shall comply with "Series "B" of the standard alphabet for highway signs on the national school bus yellow background. The sign shall be equipped with a 4-light warning system, consisting of alternating, flashing, double-faced lamps, mounted on the left and right of the words "SCHOOL BUS".
(b) The lamps shall:
(1) Be a minimum of 7 inches in diameter;
(2) Flash at a rate of no less than 60 nor more than 120 cycles per minute;
(3) Have red lenses; and
(4) Be equipped with a switch and pilot light, both of which are visible inside the vehicle and accessible to the driver.
(c) Any vehicle being operated on a public highway while transporting primarily passengers other than pupils shall have the words "SCHOOL BUS" covered, removed or made non-visible from the highway by folding the sign into a horizontal position.
(d) Sedans and taxis under contract with a school district shall display a school bus sign and shall comply with the applicable requirements of these rules.
(e) A multipurpose passenger vehicle shall display a sign on the rear of the vehicle, clearly visible and legible to motorists from a distance of at least 50 feet, indicating that the vehicle will stop at all railroad crossings.
