Blood storage facilities in the hospital shall have an adequate temperature alarm system that is regularly inspected. The alarm system must be audible and monitor proper blood storage temperature over a 24 hour period. If blood is stored or maintained for transfusion outside of a monitored refrigerator, the laboratory must ensure and document that the storage conditions (including temperature) are appropriate to prevent deterioration of the blood or blood product.
