Section 24-7-l-1 - Statutory Authority

Statutory Authority for the certification/licensure of Mental Retardation Therapists was granted in 1996 by the State Legislature. Section 41-4-7 of the Mississippi Code of 1972, Annotated was amended to include a provision authorizing the State Board of Mental Health to certify /license case managers, mental health therapists, mental retardation therapists, and others as deemed appropriate by the Mississippi State Board of Mental Health. In 1997, authority was expanded to include the certification/licensure of mental health/mental retardation program administrators and addiction counselors.
