Section R432-200-17 - General Resident Care Policies(1) The licensee shall ensure each resident is treated as an individual with dignity and respect in accordance with resident rights.(2) Each licensee shall develop and implement resident care policies to be reviewed annually by the health services supervisor.(3) The licensee shall ensure that resident care policies address the following: (a) each resident is oriented to the facility, services, and staff at the time of admission;(b) each resident receives care to ensure good personal hygiene that includes:(iii) shampoo and hair care;(iv) shaving or beard trimming; and(v) fingernail and toenail care;(c) linens and other items in contact with the resident are changed weekly or as the item is soiled;(d) each resident is encouraged and assisted to achieve and maintain the highest level of functioning and independence including:(i) teaching the resident self-care;(ii) assisting residents to adjust to their disabilities and prosthetic devices;(iii) directing residents in prescribed therapy exercises; and(iv) redirecting residents interests as necessary;(e) each resident is reevaluated annually by the licensee to determine if a less restrictive setting might be more appropriate to help them achieve independence;(f) each resident receives care and treatment to ensure the prevention of decubiti, contractions, and deformities;(g) each resident is provided with good nutrition and adequate fluids for hydration including: (i) each resident has ready access to water and drinking glasses;(ii) a resident that cannot feed themself is assisted to eat in a prompt, orderly manner; and(iii) each resident is provided with adapted equipment to assist in eating and drinking;(h) visual privacy is provided for each resident during treatments and personal care;(i) any call lights or signals are answered promptly; and(j) humidifier bottles on oxygen equipment are sterile and changed every 24 hours or at the manufacturer's direction.(4) The person in charge shall immediately notify the resident's family or guardian of any accident, injury, or adverse change in the resident's condition after the first attempt to notify the physician.
