Fernandez, et al. v. State of California, et al.(Calif Super. Ct. Los Angeles Cty. No. BC511347): On September 2, 2016, a jury reached a verdict of $45 million in favor of Plaintiff Rachel Fernandez, and her siblings Jeremey Valle, Donovan Valle and Ryan Valle. The underlying case involved the death of Plaintiffs' mother who was struck by a vehicle driven by defendant Elba Jiminez following a high speed pursuit by the California Highway Patrol. The vehicle in question was owned by defendant Elena Rodriguez. Plaintiffs alleged that defendant Elba Jiminez was intoxicated while operating the vehicle, and that Elena Rodriguez knew that Elba was intoxicated right before the accident. The jury found that Defendants Elba Jimenez and Elena Rodrigues were jointly liable in the death of Plaintiffs' mother. Plaintiffs were represented by John C. Carpenter and Michael H. Silvers.
