Violet Rose Butts, the winner of this year’s Martin Luther King, Jr., Essay Contest was honored last evening at a meeting of the Grand Rapids Board of Education. Violet, who is in the sixth grade at the Center for Economicology, read her prize winning essayand then received the congratulations of the School Board members and School Superintendent.
Warner Norcross & Judd has held the writing contest for sixth graders in the Grand Rapids Public Schools for six years. Diversity Partner Rodney Martin introduced this year’s winner to the School Board and presented her with a $300 savings bond and a $50 gift certificate to Schuler Books and Music. He also acknowledged 1st Runner Up Grace Cameron, a sixth grader at The Zoo School, 2nd Runner Up Alena Dickerson, a sixth grader at Riverside Middle School, and 17 Honorable Mention essayists.
