HHS Awards $67 Million in Navigator Grants under ACA

The United States Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”) announced today that it awarded $67 million in grants to 105 navigator grant applicants. The navigator program was created under the Affordable Care Act (“ACA”) in an effort to provide unbiased information about health insurance options. Specifically, navigators will serve as an in-person resource for Americans who want additional assistance in selecting and enrolling in the federally-facilitated and state partnership marketplaces that open for enrollment beginning on October 1, 2013. HHS also emphasized in its press release that navigators must adhere to strict security and privacy standards, as well as fulfill specific training requirements. Visit the CMS In-Person Assistance in the Health Insurance Marketplace website for more information about the navigator program.
