Help to Reauthorize the Traumatic Brain Injury Act

The Brain Injury Association of New Jersey needs your help to reauthorize the Traumatic Brain Injury Act. In order to help, you need to take action before June 7, 2006. Congressional Brain Injury Task Force Chairmen, Congressman Bill Pascrell(D-NJ) and Congressman Todd Platts (R-PA) plan to introduce the “Traumatic Brain Injury Act of 2006” in the House of Representatives during the week of June 5. The legislation will reauthorize the TBI Act programs for five more years and will make some important improvements to address emerging issues in brain injury. The “Traumatic Brain Injury Act of 2006” is the only federal legislation specifically addressing issues faced by 5.3 million American children and adults who live with a long-term disability as a result of traumatic brain injury. The Act offers balanced and coordinated public policy in brain injury prevention, research, education, and community-based services and supports for individuals living with traumatic brain injury and their families. Our ultimate goal is to have all members of the New Jersey Congressional delegation become original co-sponsors of the “Traumatic Brain Injury Act of 2006.” To that end, we need for you to contact your respective Congressman and encourage him to do so. An original co-sponsor is a Member of Congress who adds his or her name to support a piece of legislation before it is introduced.
