The petition for leave to appeal is allowed. In the exercise of this court's supervisory jurisdiction, the extended-term sentence for aggravated battery imposed by the circuit court of Cook County in People v. Jeffrey Carpenter, No. 80-4412, is vacated.

( People v. Jordan (1984), 103 Ill.2d 192.) We reduce the sentence for aggravated battery to a term of five years, the maximum term authorized under section 5-8-1(6) of the Unified Code of Corrections (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1979, ch. 38, par. 1005-8-1(6)) for a Class 3 felony. This cause is remanded to the circuit court of Cook County for issuance of a corrected mittimus.
