For the reasons set forth in my dissent in People v. Payne (1983), 99 Ill.2d 135, 140, I would grant the petition for leave to appeal and consider the merits of the defendant's claim that prospective black jurors were unlawfully excluded from serving in his trial by the prosecution's exercise of peremptory challenges.
